trends and developments

Before starting my study at Fontys, I was dead set on choosing Software as my study profile, as I was interested in improving my programming capabilities in hopes of working in the field of video game development.

However, during the orienting phase, as I reflected on my enjoyment of programming in comparison to my enjoyment of designing and creating, I found the Media & Design profile to be more in line with my interests.

I have always been a creative person, and while programming is a form of creation, I find it much too demanding skillfully and I feel the media profile allows me to focus more on the creative aspect of my work.

iterative process

My portfolio went through three main iterations based on feedback I'd received from teachers and class mates.

Initially the site featured a more menu-styled layout, but this was changed as I was told it hid all the content behind just text. I later opted to put everything on the same page, having navigation links that would scroll to each section.

While this fixed the initial problem of hidden content, it made the site very cumbersome to navigate. I also noticed many people I showed the site to would try clicking the "yurick" logo at the top left, thinking it was a home button, so I made it into one.

I ended up splitting the sections into their own pages and made the about section into the home page. This allowed me to have some content on the home page without having it be too cluttered.

TravelBud's layout also changed slightly between two iterations, as we got feedback saying the site looked too premium for its target group of students. We ended up using brighter colors on the site and removed the rounded corners, giving the site a slightly cheaper, more basic look.

interactive prototypes

While developing TravelBud with 3Dia, we made paper prototypes with modular pieces that could be rearranged and moved based on user feedback.

This helped us confirm the layout of the site before moving onto the Figma prototypes.

For both Mario & Luigi's Pizzas and TravelBud we used the results we gathered from our research to make MoSCoW tables, keeping in mind the user's needs during development and prioritizng important features.
